This busy London council required an effective communication system around their town hall complex which houses many administration departments within two large adjoining buildings.

Our client was a large borough council in the City of London who occupied two adjoining buildings, one a Victorian styled traditional building, the other a modern eight storey modern office block. Their location close by to major railway stations and one of the busiest roads in London, meant that in the event of an emergency occuring in the locality, a building evacuation may be necessary and there was no way of controlling or directing staff.

An emergency PA system was supplied and installed by PAS during normal working hours without disruption to staff, with some public areas done out of normal hours. The installation required careful co-ordination with staff and in certain areas, ingenuity from the PAS installation teams for routing cables and locating loudspeakers. A total of 320 loudspeakers were installed throughout the complex in public and staff areas.

The system is controlled from two security points with pre-recorded messages, alarm tones, loudpeaker monitoring and battery backup providing system operation in the event of a power failure.

Rooms within the civic floor which included the council chamber, mayor's office and committee rooms were provided with a custom made loudspeaker specially made for us in Germany. The speaker enclosure was powder coated in a specific RAL finish to suit the oak panelled walls of the architecturally sensitive rooms. The finished result is a very discrete speaker enclosure which has virtually no impact to the room and met with the approval of the project manager and client.

The client was pleased with the installation team's approach to the project, the minimal disruption, and the finished system which fulfilled their requirements and enables them to communicate quickly to the large number of staff and public on the premises in the event of an emergency.
